J’aime Le Dubstep no38 by AquaDrop

Hi guys, on the menu this week is mix no38 by Aquadrop. I was a big fan of his previous releases with Eight:FX, notably “Monsterz” & “Night Cruise With Demons” featured in my JLD mix no24, so I’m very happy to have him on board for the podcast.
Also, starting this week, I won’t be making crazy cover art since I cannot manage with my schedule being so busy. I will be showcasing work from other designers, sometimes myself and promo shots as I see fit. So this week we have artwork by Aquadrop himself. Check it, it’s mystical.
Next week: no39 – Mindelixir
Here is a little bio action, see for yourself what’s Aquadrop’s been up to.
Aron Airaghi a.k.a. Aquadrop (Eight:FX Recordings – Trenchant Dubs) is a dj and composer from Milan, Italy. Encouraged by his father’s passion for music and vinyl records, Aquadrop also began collecting and mixing vinyl. As a young aspiring musician, he learned to play the piano, flute and eventually went on to learn and incorporate scratching into his mix sets.
After refining his mixing and mastering technique, he founded a funky-jazz quintet called “The Natural 6” in 2001. The band was made up of Luigi Lavermicocca (contrabass), Filippo Cozzi (sax), Romeo Velluto (guitar) and John Wilson of East Milan (voice). The band was honored to be two time winners of the Italian “Lifegate Radio Music Starter” for exceptional work on their songs. In 2004 Aquadrop was asked to select the music for the Fabio Novembre exhibition at the “Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano”. During that same year his composition “The Salt Dance” was picked by John Altman as the winning track of the European award “In the Name of Salt”, organized by Bettina Werner.
He is currently working as the sound designer for “Good 50X70”, which is an international design exhibition. He has held this position since 2005. He also works as curator, composer and dj with “Triennale di Milano”, “Palazzo Reale di Milano”, “Fondazione Corriere della Sera”, “Custo Barcelona”, “Illy”, “Moroso” and “Connie Douglas”.
His previously released discography includes his self-titled “Aquadrop EP”, which is out now on Eight:FX Recordings. This E.P. has received support from many of the influential dj’s and radio stations in the scene.

In the next upcoming weeks, J’aime Le Dubstep will be releasing a mix by our buddy Mindelixir. If you’re not familiar with the name, then you might remember hearing his track Zombinator over the summer/fall ‘09 in many of my live sets. So, with the release of Zombinator 2 coming up in a few weeks and the release of the JLD mix, I thought I would post up some links on this North Carolina based producer.

The recording does has some bumps and bruises due do very shaky turntable/needle/wooden table/wooden stage, but whatever this mix is packed with insane mixes and tracks. Enjoy
Here are a quick few pics of the action going down. Big BIG BIG thanks to Bouddha Slinky, Excision, Datsik and all the bass faces who stuck around till the end!!!! Let’s do this again very soon.

No commentsJ’aime Le Dubstep no37 by Geoff Buchanan

Hello everyone,
Well, it’s 2010 and we’re off to a flying start here in Montreal. I hope everyone had a great holiday and everyone is well rested for what looks like a HUGE year building up!
So, let’s get the ball rolling this week with mix no.37 by Geoff Buchanan, and up and coming teeth shattering producer from Montreal. Recently signed to the new & fresh label Monkey Dubs, look out for his crisp, ruff experimental sounds.
Check out his links on the label’s website for some killer freebies
here a little bio, via the monkey dubs site:
Twenty-year-old Geoff “Bukk” Buchanan, known for having a certain preference in music varying from countless and publically unheard-of styles, voices his ideas and thoughts through the seemingly simple concept of music. Simple always felt too complicated. This he figured out after his big hip-hop phase in his early teens when he discovered something called metal. Being a guitar player since the age of 9, he put his instruments to work.
In 2006 he met up with fellow musicians upon his move to Montreal from Quebec City. Performing in metal/hardcore bands as guitarist, he and the other band members played in local Montreal venues including Reggie’s and Club Soda. Never satisfied with only sticking to one groove and sound, exploring the underground European garage scene brought him to discovering his musical calling through what some people would consider to be dubstep.
Whatever anyone calls it, Geoff merges aggressive tones with delicate ambiances and catchy melodies.
Coming up in the next few weeks, mixes by Aquadrop, Intoccabile, Mindelixir, Nmezee and more.
Now for the beats.
