Katy B encapsulates the sound, spirit and unrestrained energy of British youth culture right now. Surrounded by a stellar cast of producers including Benga, Zinc, Magnetic Man and Geeneuus, founder of dubstep pionner radio station Rinse FM, ‘on a Mission’, her debut album, launched the 21-years girl to the top of UK charts within a couple of weeks. Between Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Beyoncé, she will offer hot vibrations to the audience with her ethereal voice and her confident presence.

The night will be hosted by Montreal well-known Dj Construct. Founder of the dubstep events, Brassdrive Wednesday, alongside with Vilify, he also hosts several UK Bass radio shows. He will open up for Katy B, and then drop massive UK Funky and Dubstep bombs until 3 in the morning!

Last night, I was invited to come down to PROJECT, a newly formed bi-monthly Juke, UKG, Bass night at Blizzarts in Montreal. At the helm on this event is two of our TwerkIt.net crew members, Hesk & Paveun along side HGLDT, Son Raw and Rob Carle.

This is quite big. Win an opening spot at this winter’s Igloofest in Montreal! If you’ve not heard about Igloofest yet, here is a little info about it.

This year will be the 6th edition of Igloofest in Montreal, a 9 night outdoor freezing cold wicked awesome fun time with headlining DJs from around the world. The nights span over the last 3 weekends of January (Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays) and attract around 10,000 people each night! (Brought to us by the fine people at Piknic Elektronique)

This year, we are very excited to learn that MALA will be the main act of the opening night, followed by Pearson Sound, Buraka Som Sistema and many, many other great acts on the following nights (mostly in the house, techno branch of things). It’s a wicked fun time out in the cold of night, with thousands of people jumping around in the wildest snow gear imaginable.

Well this year, Igloofest and Bench have teamed up to offer a round trip to Montreal, $1000 in Bench gear and of course a coveted opening slot of the main stage of the festival!

All you have to do is read the instruction of course, and submit your 30min mix to mixcloud with all the proper tags and guidelines. Any style of music is welcomed, so stress your flex a little and see what you can come up with!

I’ve already submitted my own mix and I suggest you all to do the same. It’s a great chance for you to be seen and listened to by people of all demographics and taste.

Last night rocked! I mean, we always have a good time when we’re hanging at Le Belmont, but last night was sick!! In the place was Alpha Pup artist and Low End Theory resident, Jonwayne. The crowd was taken away by his set which was all performed using only a Roland SP404sx. Rather impressive in my standards.

I had the joy of following up after such a big performance with the graveyard shift. I tried to follow a similar vibe but with my own twist. A few bumps and bruises along the way but that’s the fun of a good live show.

Big ups to Low-Life.ca and Dubmachine + Bouddha Slinky for making this happen.

BIO BLIPS:

So Cal native Jonwayne is an integral member of the LA beat scene’s second generation whose music has been bouncing between the walls of Low End Theory for months.

Originally involved in the local underground music community as a spoken word artist and rapper, Jonwayne soon found himself at the Airliner on Wednesday evening for Low End Theory. After experiencing a mind-blowing night at the club, the young artist discovered new creative inspiration and started making music. Today my new mix came out for the UNLOg Podcast series, a blog dedicated to Wonky, Chipset, IDM and other obscure beats. They’re main operation come out of France but they have collaborators all over the place including Montreal.

For this mix, I basically redid my set from the Nasty.FM Halloween party with a few edits to the track list. So pretty much all my favourite tunes at the moment.

Not only is Halloween one of the biggest nights out, next to NYE but it’s most definitely my favourite… well after I’ve got my costumes figured out of course. HYPER is a legendary MC part of the original N.A.S.T.Y CREW. His spin on MC’ing influenced GRIME in a big way, representing the loud, easy-to-follow style jocked by the best MC’s like Skepta and Wiley. 3 years ago Hyper was asked to come do a Christmas day special on RINSE FM. He has been back and involved, ever since.

Last night I was invited to play an opening set before Data Romance’s live performance at CFC in Montreal. For those who don’t know yet, Data Romance is a duo made up of Ajay & Amy both from Victoria BC, now living in Vancouver BC. They’re sound is hard to pin point. Somewhere in between a lush garage shuffle, and some indie electro act teamed up with beautiful vocal work from Amy. Anyway, that left me baffled about what to play before such an act to say the least, so I tried to play it as calm as possible…. it didn’t quite work out that way.

The recording was for myself but turned out quite nice, so here it is for you all to enjoy.

Couldn’t be more excited about this upcoming show! MEG Festival & SJU (SAMOURAÏS DES JUNGLES URBAINES) are teaming up together once again to bring some of the best talent around (remember DJ Craze this summer!?) This time they are going big! Bringing in France’s Birdy Nam Nam for 1 night in Montreal, they’re only appearance in Canada!

Just incase you don’t know Birdy Nam Nam, here is what wikipedia has to say about them:

Birdy Nam Nam are a DJ crew from France whose members are Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need, and Little Mike. Birdy Nam Nam have won several prizes throughout their career including the DMC Technics 2002 World TEAM Championships. Birdy Nam Nam’s goal is to use the turntable player as an actual musical instrument. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2006 on Uncivilized World Records, and in March of that year, they performed at the internationally-renowned music conference SXSW. The group’s name is taken from a line in the 1968 Peter Sellers film The Party, directed by Blake Edwards.[1]
They gain their music from friends, owned albums, and press beats and patterns into vinyl to assemble their music live.
