J’aime Le Dubstep no70 – SUBVERT Live at Shambhala ‘10

August 30th, 2010 | Category: J'aime le Dubstep, Mixes

Jaime-wk70-500Subvert_LIve_@_Shambhala_2010_backVillage CrowdSUBVERTcolour-01-sqr-web

Well, as posted before, this week we have a MASSSSSIVE mix by the man who’s been causing a rumble throughout North America either with his crazy intense ground shaking, ear busting, black hole causing PK Sound systems or his gut-punching bass productions. The mighty SUBVERT delivers us one of the strongest mixes yet, no70, a live recording of his performance at this year’s SHAMBHALA Festival!

For all those in attendance at the festival, it might bring back flash backs of the event, so please sit down. To all others, crank up the music, crank up the bass and stick your face to the speaker cause nothing come close to the village experience (from what i’ve been told).

Big thanks to Subvert for releasing this mix through Wickedbad.net !!

Here’s some bio jibbah jabbah for those who aren’t in the know about SUBVERT.

Subvert – PK Sound / Muti Music / Shambhala Music Festival / Rottun Recordings

Subvert hails from Calgary, Alberta and his winding path in music started in 1996. Proof of his dedication to ‘Bass’ is in his track record of creating the world’s loudest competition vehicles, designing pK’s 100,000 watt sound system and managing the Village Stage at Shambhala Music Festival. He started DJing in 2000 and combined with his extensive work on sound systems and attention to
precision sound, he was ultimately & naturally led down the path to creating his own music productions and once again the low frequencies consumed him. Subvert’s sound is a combination of throbbing, relentless basslines, melodic strings and haunting pianos singing through midtempo glitch / acid crunk and dubstep. His attention to detail and the ability to tune into ‘bass that works’ can be felt in all of his music productions.

It’s all about the bass…..

J’aime Le Dubstep no67 – Mark Instinct

August 11th, 2010 | Category: J'aime le Dubstep, Mixes

Jaime-wk67-500

I don’t know if I should even say anything this week, other then it’s mix no67 by MARK INSTINCT !!! This Calgary guy ain’t no cowboy, and you’ll know why soon if you don’t have a clue who he is (if so WAKE UP !!).

Mark has exploded on the dubstep scene over the past year. Having released tracks on Betamorph, Dubline, Rottun Records, Play Me Records, Aufect Records and many more to come i’m sure, Mark has carved his sound into the brains of many dubheads world wide.

Oh and for you Montreal heads. Catch Mark Instinct live at Bass Drive Wednesday, September 8th 2010 for my Big Bass Bday Party! (you heard it here first!)

Some bio blip blaps

Mark Instinct was always into the sounds of electronic music, but it wasn’t until his introduction to drum and bass, at the age of seventeen, that he decided it was time to add his own mark on music. With impeccable taste and skill sets, early bookings with Hive, Pendulum, Noisia and Tech Itch started to gain him recognition in bass circles around Western Canada.

At the age of 20 years old, when Mark Instinct started experimenting with music production, he finally found his niche. Beginning with drum and bass, and dabbling in other genres, such as house, it was the grimy stripped down sounds of dubstep that ultimately caught his attention. Creating dark nasty beats, synonymous with the Western Canadian sound, Mark Instinct soon began to chisel out his own distinctive style imprinted on releases “Sketchy Maxx” and “Fword”.

Attention from record labels Rottun, Dubline and Aufect recordingss lead to the release of “Invader” and “Badman Sound” in 2009, tracks which were soon found on the top-ten playlists of many international DJ’s. Forthcoming “Destroyed” and storming “15 Karat EP” are slated for release in early-mid 2010. Additionally, tracks released on Betamorph Recordings “The Humunaoid EP” & Aufect Digital’s “Love me Nots” release were featured in the top ten charts of Juno, Chemical Records, & Digital Tunes.

Ascending the steep slope of music with ease, this 23 year old is proving that 2010 will be no different. Appearances alongside dubstep’s biggest names, a hectic tour schedule which include an appearance at Winter Music Conference “World of Drum and Bass”, remixes and collaborations with Downlink, Symbl, Ale Fillman, and releases on “Play Me”, “Trill Bass Recordings”, and DJ SS’ “Formation Records” it comes as no surprise that Mark Instinct will continue pushing musical boundaries. With tight mixing skills that have been instilled from drum and bass, melody lines of genuine electronic musicality and the dirty sub and mid range bass that could only be contained by dubstep Mark Instinct is this decades artist to watch.

Q&A with Mark Instinct

1-  Success came quite fast for you, what would you attribute this to?

Lots of hard work, dedication, and mad hermit mode… oh and lots of love!

2 – Top 3 musical inspirations

Rage Against the Machine, Dr Dre, Pendulum.

3- Please tell us more about the Calgary scene.

The Calgary scene is on fire. Every event seems to be bringing out fresh faces every time, it’s full of youth and excitement and the bass culture is definitely growing. There are really great people who are involved in making this happen. With a really strong night life there are plenty of outlets for bass music, and in all forms, Dub, Clubstep, DnB, and it seems to have no end in sight. Calgary is already in the spotlight for housing some of the best events Canada has seen yet and with time It will be in an international spotlight. THE FUTURE IS BASS!

4- Favourite place you’ve had the chance to play?

Fav Place has to be LA for Pure Filth, the crowd was really responsive, wicked vibes, and a good community. You could definitely see bassfaces all through the place!

5- Other then cheese what would you include in your grill cheese?

Saracha = Win.

6- Which producer do you think will breakthrough next?

Ive heard alot of great production and i think BARE will be the next to breakthrough, his tunes are already charting, but with a release schedule like his it will be no time before hes dominating the bass scene.

7- Favourite killer instinct character?

FULGORE! Always owns every time!

8- Rave or club gig?

I like both just as much i think :)

9- Ideal dj setup.

2 cdj 2000’s, Pioneer Djm800

10- Before a good production session, I ____?

Make a mad cup of coffee and hit the blunt, Who dun’t ;) ?

Finally, where can people buy your records?/Stay updated?
