In a time where too many people either receive acclaim too easily or simply buy their way into the industry and mp3-players of fans all over (if this is you – yeah, you suck for it). Sometimes an artist will breakthrough because of their hard work ethic, great attitude and all around positive vibe. When it comes to Living~Stone, nothing could describe him better. This guy carries as much heart as he does bass.

Busting out bass in multiple styles, Living~Stone has been building his craft for more then a minute. Crunking out some glitch-hop, dubstep, or straight up bass; L~S is a proud supporter of Bass Culture in general. His crew Dig-it-Al, along side Vipond (featured as Guestlist on JLD JLD28, JLD13 / L~S JLD21) have been holding it down in town with a free sunday night event at Blizzarts (Montreal) giving free access to bass to all in need.

Big props for getting pick up by Daly City Records, headed by the world’s favorite dinosaur, Mochipet (JLD114) !

Living~Stone is a genre-busting performer melding frequencies of dub, dubstep, hip hop, glitch hop, D&B mid-tempo and all things fat and funky into a sonic experience he likes to call Bass Culture.
He has shared the stage with many prominent international Bass Music headliners including Skream, Benga, Bassnectar, Eskmo, Sub Swara, Goth Trad, Taal Mala, Komodo, Ill Gates, Nosia and many more.
Living~Stone is the co-founder Dig.iT.aL, an open source collective of artists and musicians throughout North America, Europe, and where ever people can be found that truly Dig iT aLL.
Home Base is Montreal, Canada where Living~Stone is one of two residents of the monthly Dig. iT. aL Sunday’s Bass music nights at Blizzarts Lounge on the second sunday of every month.

Well, well, what a surprise we’ve got here! Our fourth mix in our San Francisco Series, and our JLD mix #114 coming in from the biggest purple dinosaur since Barney & Friends, MOCHIPET !!!! If your unfamiliar with the name, then we’re gonna change that.

I’ve been a fan of Mochipet ever since his 2007 release Girls <3 Breakcore, wither or not this is true is irelevant, because I like girls who love Breakcore. In fact Mochipet has been releasing music since 2002 in all sorts of styles but mainly remaining in the IDM 8bit esthetics going up to Breakcore. From what I can tell he made his move into the world of Glitch Hop, very succesfully I may add, in 2008/09. His album Master P On Atari is a great listen and I recommend it (Girls <3 Breakcore too, if your into the harder and faster riddims). So it goes without saying that I'm more then proud to release this wicked mix by Mochipet, the San Fancisco Purple Dragon Dinosaur.

Watch out for his label Daly City, who features and will be featuring some great Montreal producers such as The Gulf Stream & Living~Stone.

BIO BLURB:

Born in Taiwan R.O.C. to Rocket Scientist father and Kindergarten Teacher mother, David Wang (a.k.a. Mochipet) has been tinkering with electronics since he was a child. However, not until he added music to the equation, did something special begin to take shape. Having grown up listening to metal guitar, avant-garde jazz, and mainstream hip-hop, David’s eclectic taste can now be seen in his music ‘ ever changing, and always evolving.

His efforts have been recognized throughout the music community by way of nominations for titles including ‘Best Electronic Act of 2008′ from publications such as Clash Magazine (UK) and San Francisco Bay Guardian. His composition ‘Dessert Search for Techno Baklava’ has been performed by a 20 piece orchestra, Alarm Will Sound, around the world, most notably at New York’s Carnegie Hall, and Amsterdam’s Holland Festival!

Never wasting an ounce of drive, David founded and manages independent record label, Daly City Records (DCR), which runs out of the Bay Area ‘ home to many up-and-coming artists. He is also working to finish up two new albums, ‘Vendetta (with MC Zulu)’ and ‘Rawr Means I love You in Dinosaur,’ both set to hit on his label this summer!

Super slick DJ irk is back up on Cold Cut’s Solid Steel Radio Show. If you guys have a slip in your memory, then let me recap… DJ irk was the very deserving winner of Guest Mix of the Year on Solid Steel Radio for 2010. No easy task, as you can only imagine the gamut of highly skilled DJs and producers to grace the stage next to a legend like Cold Cut. Irk steps back up to the Solid Steel decks for the first time since winning last year’s MOTY title, bringing with him his usual knack for juxtaposing quality track sequences with detailed scratch prowess and absurd sampling. He sets up with another signature hiphop intro, then makes a break for some bone-crunching beats from the likes of Broken Note, Bassnectar and our very own King Cannibal. Then it’s on to some electro-hiphop flavours, showcasing a bunch of great new sounds from friendly producers the world over, including Dizz1, Cherry Chan and Kiat, and irk’s Montreal-based pal Living Stone. Throw in a Bonobo track from the NinjaTune XX celebrations and a couple of UK hiphop giants on the way then it’s over to the dubstep and breaks for a solid landing.
